The Fish That Wouldn’t Die

You’ve heard already that Abby got a fish tank and three fish. Purchased with her own money and with the fish life in her hands – meaning, we were really trying to emphasize her responsibility with this. Well, fish after fish has died. Sapphire, Sunset, Zippy, and Flame, all dead. After the four, we told Abby she would be allowed one more fish but that was it. Five dead fish was enough. This last fish is named Gigi. Shockingly, it’s still alive.

Gigi is a different type of fish. The other four were all guppies. This one is something else, a neon tetra. Perhaps neon tetras are just an indestructible type of fish while guppies were too delicate? Either way, the tank is not cleaned regularly now; Abby forgets to feed Gigi; she even forgets to turn on the tank light and leaves it in the dark all day; it’s also alone in the tank when it’s supposed to have a buddy. In short, Abby has lost interest in fish rearing. Of course, we expected this. What we’re really shocked about is that Gigi is doing fine. He’s alive, active, normal, and, dare I say it, happy! Lee is disappointed that Gigi is still alive. I’m disappointed that Gigi is still alive. Abby is mad that Gigi is still alive. Abby has plans for the tank and a new pet – a hermit crab (not that we’re going to allow her another pet. She originally asked for a snake. I said hell no! Then she asked for a lizard. Lee and I both said no. Now it’s been downgraded to a hermit crab. Ha!)

Now we’re just waiting...

Come on, Gigi. Die already.

  1. Naming pet fish is never a good idea. You're going to run out of names before you run out of fish.
