We needed another family outing, and we asked Grammy to accompany us this time. Once again we were off to the Train Museum, but this time we were going to make a few more stops and try to fully enjoy the day. Our itinerary included the Train Museum, with the specific intent to find the fabled Golden Spike (Grammy really wanted to see it), a stop at one of the fun-filled tourist stores in Old Sac, lunch at a new place we've never tried (with a coupon), and a horse-drawn carriage ride.
Abby was all dolled up and ready to show Grammy around the trains. After all, they were practically her trains by now! She also insisted on carrying her little blue train whistle in her black purse. I insisted that if she brought her purse then she'd have to carry it. Abby actually did a very good job about it.
We made the rounds through the museum.
I'm not sure who was showing whom around here.
We did need to ask for directions to the Golden Spike though. We were pointed towards a section of the museum we had thought just led back to the main entrance but which really held a whole other area of trains and, at last, the Golden Spike.
Informational phones kept us entertained,
but not because we were listening to them!
A fun mirror for Abby to see her pouty face.
Finally, our goal. It certainly was shiny. Very golden. And the detailed inscription was really cool.
We were pretty pleased. We've been there numerous times and we always seem to find/see something new each time. Now that's a cool museum.
After saying tootles to the trains, we stopped for lunch at the Brickside restaurant. The food was fine, the atmosphere was great, even for Abby, and the wait staff was friendly, even to Abby. The prices weren't great (in my cheap opinion), but we had a coupon so I wasn't complaining. It was fun to try someplace new.
Next we did some small shopping and then we were off to find the horses. We let Abby and Grammy pick the horse and carriage we would use, which basically meant Abby got to pick. She clapped eyes on a horse named Champ,
money exchanged hands, we loaded into the carriage with Grammy and Abby snuggled under a blanket together, and we were off.
After a few minutes of excitement, Abby seemed lulled by the swaying and rocking. She asked if she could lay back and go to sleep. Poor kid, she did have a busy day...
Grammy seemed pretty happy with the experience. She hadn't been inside that museum for years and she could only barely remember some of the things they use to have inside. On top of that, it had been a long while since Grammy had taken a carriage ride through the streets of Old Sac.
It was another great family outing.
