Snow Burn

We finally - finally - got up to the snow the other day.

Abby was gifted with an awesome snow suit for Christmas last year. She looked adorable in it too.

Well, ever since we've gotten it, we've been dying to go up to the snow. But, I kid you not, storms have rolled in consistently every weekend we were able to go. (This spring has been crazy for storms - way more than CA usually ever sees.) When the timing was finally right, we were ready. Grammy and Mike came with us, with the dogs and the sleds. Including the totally awesome sled I had gotten Mike for Christmas. (I try really hard to get Mike the type of awesome presents that I know he'll share with me later in the year. *wink*)

So anyway, we went up to good ol' Loon Lake, beautifully iced and frosted in white powder, and picnicked by the Chalet there.

Only a few other people were there, so it was nice and quiet. We went sledding first.

Lee going down head first

Mike cleared the path for the steepest hill. He was kind enough to find the bottomless chasm along the trail up. He slid down to his belly and then squirmed and squirmed to get out.

Circled in red - Mike totally stuck!

We all stood at the base of the hill laughing our fannies off watching him. When it looked like he couldn't get out, and our shouted encouragement obviously was not working, Lee and I played rock/paper/scissors to determine which one of us would traverse the hill to aid him. Before we finished, Mike wiggled up and out. Cheering, we watched him get to the perfect sledding spot and then shoot down the hill outta control. Total time up: 35 minutes. Total time down: 2 seconds. Was it worth it? Heck yeah! My turn next!!

We shot down the hill a couple different times, then we headed back to the cars for lunch. After that we played around. Lee built Abby a shelf in a wall of snow and made her a little kitchen for her mud pie kit.

The adults had a snow ball fight and Grammy made a terrible looking snow angel. The best part was watching her do it! HA! Too funny!

We finished the day with some more sledding. Abby was even brave enough to join me on the sled down the big hill. What a brave kid! We screamed the whole way down.

The snow was so blinding that sunny day. Even with our sunglasses on, we felt the brightness getting to us. And woe to the person foolish enough to take their glasses off. Our eyes instantly watered. It was blindingly white! It made the temperature wonderful enough that we could all go without coats. In fact, I took off my sweater and opted for my tank top. None of us thought about the sun too much though until Grammy looked over at me and noticed my skin turning red. Oops! Totally forgot the sunscreen. Everyone confirmed I was looking like a lobster.

By the drive home though, it looked like Lee was going redder than me. Snow burn for sure!!
