So Lee volunteers in Abby's classroom every third Tuesday, or something like that. Well, this past Tuesday, Abby's class had a substitute teacher and, as a result, the kids were a little more chaotic than usual. To top it off, a couple of the boys in her class got into a fight on the playground yard.
The yard duty teacher hauled the culprits in and saw Abby speaking with Lee. The yard duty teacher glanced at Abby and then looked at Lee. "Is she yours?" she growled.
Fearing where this conversation may lead, Lee braced himself. "Yes."
The woman beamed, "She's wonderful! Abby, what did I tell you to tell your parents for me?"
Abby thought for a bit. "Ummm, I'm nice?" (Of course, we had never heard this from Abby.)
"That's right," she hooted. "Out of all the kids, Abby is one of the nicest, sweetest, caring kids out there. She's wonderful."
And this is coming from the woman who supervises a dozen classrooms on the playground yard. Wow, what a wonderful compliment to hear!
