At Mommy's Work

Every year, VSP puts on a small picnic type Easter event for employees' families. It's usually pretty modest, and held in and around the small lawns within the courtyard between two buildings. This was the first year that anyone could remember that it dared to rain on our event. So, despite the fact that it was held indoors, it was still fun.



They had face painters, which Grammy and I readily volunteered for, fresh popped popcorn, a magician with real birds and bunnies, egg hunts for different age children, buckets and coloring books and crayons, a movie, a walking Easter Bunny, and other various activities. And it was all free! Awesome. Plus, I got to take Grammy to my 'office' for the first time.





But, the most wonderful thing that happened was seeing Abby and the Easter Bunny. Abby did not shy away from the EB like she did last year. For a couple weeks now, she had been mentioning memories of last Easter and 'talking' with the Easter Bunny. Now, our EB at VSP does not talk. Like most characters in a giant costume, it's extremely difficult to talk through the mesh slits in the eyes (not to mention kinda disturbing). But Abby kept going on and on about talking with the Easter Bunny. So we encouraged her to talk to him but to not be surprised if he doesn't talk back. Sure enough, the EB did a lot of waving and shaking hands and even high-fives. But no talking. Somehow, I almost think that's what put Abby more at ease. She needed to warm up to him a little, but once she did, she had no problem talking to him and even sitting on his lap. Lee and I were seriously impressed. She did great.
