Spring Drive

Grammy suggested a drive to Ironstone Vineyards and Winery in the Sierra foothills near Angel's Camp for a daffodil show. It was a great drive. The foothills were rolling undulations of lush green grass, spotted with cows and horses, young lambs, and picturesque old barns. The sky was a wide blue and giant oaks reached upwards. It was a gorgeous Californian spring day.

Ironstone Vineyards was a pompous winery and a tourist trap to boot. It was dedicated solely to making money. Lots of money. It was pretty disgusting. On the other hand, the buildings and grounds were beautiful. The landscape was filled with daffodils, burbling creeks and calm ponds. We enjoyed peaceful walks around the flowers and discovering new sights around every corner. It was really nice to be outside in the sun.

On the drive home, I practiced some more speed photography - snapping photos from the passenger window of Grammy's speeding car. She was clocking anywhere from 55 to 70 mph. They're not the best shots, but they capture iconic images found throughout the California foothills. I really tried to enjoy and appreciate the foothills on this trip because it was quite obvious that more and more empty fields were disappearing under monolithic housing developments.

My advice to everyone who can: go out and delight in the sights of California before it all turns to strip malls and miles and miles of houses.
