"I Hate My Nose" Part II

Thank you, Shawna! OMGosh, Shawna saved our bacon with Abby's "rash" around her nose.

Turns out it isn't a rash or pimples - it's impetigo, which is a common infection for school age kids because, basically, they don't wash their hands enough.

So we were sitting around the couch, grousing with Shawna about Abby's rash and how it simply wasn't acting like normal pimples. On top of that, we had just gotten a letter from Abby's school announcing scabies at school. Well we knew she didn't have scabies, but maybe she has something else. Shawna said hmmmmm, how about this? or how about that? By her third guess she said impetigo. We looked it up and immediately it was obvious - yep, Abby had impetigo.

It was sad to see that the primary cause for the bacterial infection is dirty hands. We wash her hands all the time. At home. But at school, we think that hand washing is only pushed just before lunch. And, as I mentioned earlier, she is a nose picker. So her nose was the first thing to get infected. As for the two dots on her wrist, Shawna guessed it was from wiping her nose on her wrist, a common kid gesture.

Sigh. Well, at least now we know what it is. The treatment is simply to use antibiotic ointment on the sores and it should heal up.

The good news - in one day we could see a visible difference. They are on the mend. Thank you, Aunt Shawna!
